Salad lovers, rejoice! This is the best time of year in a garden if you like leafy greens. Spring temperatures help things like lettuce, kale, broccoli and peas thrive and they are thriving over in the OB garden.

Feel free to visit with your family and collect a few leaves for your next salad. The best way to gather produce right from the ground is with sharp scissors. Here's how:

  1. Select leaves from the outside of the plant. They'll generally be the biggest leaves anyway.
  2. Push them away from the center of the plant (where the new leaves grow) and snip off your leaf close to the base of the plant.
  3. Only take a few leaves from each plant and make sure you leave several leaves on each plant so it can continue to grow.
